Do you know how I could paint kitchen cabinets that have been thermofoil wrapped. I have seen videos about removing the foil (looks like a huge job). Curious to know if you have ever done this before? I don’t want to get half way in and realize that I made a huge mistake. There are lots of cabinets 🤪

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is a great questions Jenn! I personally have never painted Thermofoil wrapped cabinets but I did research before answering your question. I think the biggest question is if you’re current cabinets are peeling or not. If not, there’s no problem. I am including this link since I think they explain everything very well and even explain how some minor peeling can be sanded and which primer and paint they used. The self-leveling paint is a game changer.

I think it would be worth your read. The comments on this link were also helpful giving tips on how to use a hair dryer if you really wanted to peel off the Thermofoil. Again, I’ve never done this myself. I really think it depends on how damaged the doors are.

Thanks for this Heather. My cabinets are in excellent shape except in a high traffic spot or 2 where the foil is lifting a little. Otherwise, they are in excellent shape. I am considering tackling the island to see how that works out before I attempt any major redo. I will take a look at the link and figure out how I want to proceed. Thanks for the advice!
