    Table Settings for Christmas

    (Link: https://styledhomeliving.com/table-settings-for-christmas/)

Heather, the timing of your website is perfect. We moved 2 and a half years ago and got rid of a lot of our Christmas stuff in the move. This Sunday I’m having company over for lunch – the first time in my home since we moved. I’ve gone over your “Table Settings For Christmas” blog and have taken in what you have recommended. Tomorrow I’m going to buy some new candles, linen napkins and pick some evergreens to add to the table.

In the meantime, here has been my process. 1) I pulled out the 3 table runners that I kept and any decorations that would go with them. 2) I decided on the “harvest” runner as it looked natural & country, and I thought the silver charger plates looked good on them. I added a small string of lights in the middle and added some Christmas balls to brighten it up, including a few light blue ones, to connect with our blue walls.

At the last minute, I tried the plaid table runner – and was surprised. I think I prefer it to the Harvest one as it feels more like Christmas.

Please let me know what you think. I put some other paper napkins on the plate for the time being, and have extra red balls to add to each place setting. This is so much fun! I’ve never set a table like this before. 🙂

Wow, I’m impressed with your thought process for each runner and table setting option.  I think you definitely made the right choice for your country Christmas theme with the plaid option.  I love how the basket with greenery pulls everything together.  Since you’re asking for suggestions, you might want to use your pretty paper napkins when serving your tea, coffee, appetizers or deserts.  You will notice the pattern more.

I think solid fabric napkins would have more impact with your colour blocking.  They are reusable and are more practical on your lap.  I buy mine at HomeSense (4 X $9.99).  I just bought a package of gray cloth napkins on Amazon (12 X $24.00) and they were delivered the next day. Choose a colour that can be used often.  For your plaid runner, you could choose wheat, red or green.  You might also want to put larger pillar candles in your lovely holders.  I see you put some ornaments on the plates.  Are you planning on using them for napkin rings?  Congratulations on your lovely table setting.

You might want to reach out and ask the other members on the recipe group to see if they can give you some menu suggestions.  There is a lot of talent amongst us.

BONUS – Since you already have your light blue runner and silver chargers you could create another table setting for New Years Eve.  Just look outside your window and use nature as your inspiration. Add white plates and blue or white napkins.  Get some tall branches from your back yard and paint them white and glue some sparkle or Epson Salts for a bit of twinkle. Place them in tall glass cylinder vases.  The branches would give height, but since the vases are clear so they don’t block the view across the table. Put some fake snow, twinkle lights and pinecones in the base of the vases for interest.  You could even add some of the sparkly plastic snow flake tree ornaments on the blue runner.  Silver or white candles would finish it off. Most of these items can be purchased at the dollar store but together they will look elegant.)

Sorry if I’ve overloaded you with information, but you asked….  🙂

Thank you so much Heather! These are incredible ideas to work with. Yes, I’m copying your idea of using the ornaments for the napkins, wrapped in ribbon. I’ll be getting new candles and napkins tomorrow – thanks for the colour options. And thank you for the BONUS! I would have never gone there for New Years. I’ll send an updated photo when it’s all pulled together. Thank you again. You have such decorating wisdom! ~ Dianne <3

My first fancy table setting was a hit! Thank you again Heather, for guiding me along the way. I had one day to shop and found some gold charger plates 1/2 price, some low cost wine glasses (we don’t drink but they made the table look so classy) and some red cloth napkins – not the red I would have preferred, but at least I found some. Here are some photos before the guests arrived:

OMG Diane, this is beautiful.  I’m so happy for you. The gold chargers also really warm it up compared to the silver ones.  Where did you find them?  You might have just caught the ‘table setting’ bug. lol

Thank you Heather.  I found them at our little Home Hardware. I also found some little wooden heart Christmas ornaments and gift wrapped them as gifts for my guests. I never thought a hardware store would become my favourite place to shop. Yes, I think I’m developing a bit of a bug for this, lol!
